If you are searching for USC Los Angeles housing in the DPS zone, the real question is usually whether a particular address sits inside the area students call the DPS zone, and what that means day to day. This guide shares what students themselves said about it in local housing group posts in mid-October 2026, explains what we can and cannot tell you, and points you to current listings on our off-campus listings page for Los Angeles that you can use as comparisons while you check the details.

USC Los Angeles housing in the DPS zone: what students look for

One thing up front: none of our current listings mentions DPS in its title or address, so we cannot tell you whether any particular listing is inside the zone. The listings below are ones that are available now and listed close to campus by car. Treat them as comparisons, and confirm the zone boundary for any address directly with USC before you rely on it.

Begin your search at Off-Campus Universe, where you can browse current listings near Los Angeles.

Right now you can compare these available-now listings near Los Angeles, none of which is identified as being in the DPS zone: Furnished Studio 3 block frm USC Village at $1,888/month, 1321 on 30th at $1,100/month, 1 Bedroom Available half block from USC at $1,200/month, 2700 Ellendale at $2,200/month, and West 35th Place at $995/month. West 35th Place is marked Rent by Room, so its price is for a room rather than the whole home.

What These Comparison Listings Offer

Furnished Studio 3 block frm USC Village is a furnished apartment listed with one bedroom and one bathroom on an 11-month lease, with a lease timing of 8/17/2026 and a Distance by Car of under 5 minutes from campus. 1321 on 30th is a furnished one-bedroom, one-bathroom house listing on a year lease (12 months), with lease timing of August 2026 to July 2027 and a Distance by Car of under 5 minutes. 1 Bedroom Available half block from USC is a furnished one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment on a year lease (12 months), with a lease timing of 8/1/2026 and a Distance by Car of under 5 minutes. 2700 Ellendale is a furnished two-bedroom, one-bathroom listing on a year lease (12 months), with lease timing of July/August 2026 and a Distance by Car of under 5 minutes. West 35th Place is a furnished listing with eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms, marked Rent by Room, on a year lease (12 months) with a lease timing of 8/1/2026 and a Distance by Car of under 5 minutes.

Those listings were chosen because they are available now and sit in the closest Distance by Car band, and because together they cover the floor plans students named in those posts: a studio, one-bedrooms, a two-bedroom you could split, and a room in a larger shared home. All five are furnished, which matters here, since furnished housing was the topic raised most often above the usual level in the mid-October 2026 student posts described below.

Because all five are listed in the same under 5 minutes Distance by Car band, the more useful differences are in the set-up and the terms. The studio is on an 11-month lease, which is shorter than a full year, while the others are year leases (12 months). Several lease timings are dates that have already passed, so ask each landlord what move-in date is possible now and whether the rent is prorated for a partial month. For the room in the shared home, ask how many people share each kitchen, how laundry works, and whether the lease is individual or joint. For the whole-unit listings, ask which utilities are included, whether parking comes with the unit, and what the deposit and move-in costs are, so you can compare the full monthly cost rather than just the rent figure on the listing.

USC Los Angeles Housing in the DPS Zone: What Students Said

In student posts in local Facebook housing groups from 17 to 19 October 2026, 13 posts mentioned the DPS zone, the idea behind searches for USC Los Angeles housing in the DPS zone, and the dollar figures quoted in those 13 posts were $800, $970, $1,000, $1,025, $1,155, $1,220, $1,275, $1,500 and $1,600. Students in those posts describe the DPS zone as the patrol area of USC's Department of Public Safety, and some posts mention a free Lyft zone. That is everything we hold from students on the topic, and it comes from what people typed in their posts, not from USC and not from our listing data. Boundaries and ride programs can change, so confirm the current DPS patrol area and any ride program details directly with USC before you choose a place because of them. Across all 42 student posts we looked at from those same three days, the median rent per person that people quoted was $1,025, based on 55 dollar figures students typed; that is a figure from student posts, not a market rate and not an OCU listing price.

The same student posts also show what else people were looking for alongside location. Compared with the usual level, those posts mentioned furnished housing more often (71% of posts), in-unit laundry (64%), being close to campus (45%), parking (48%), a private room or bathroom (43%), semester timing (26%) and utilities included (17%). In those posts, students named USC Village five times and DTLA four times, and the floor plans named most were studios, one-bedrooms and townhouses. If your own list looks similar, write it down before you tour so you can check each place against it.

Tips for Checking a Place Against the DPS Zone

  • Ask the landlord for the exact street address, then confirm with USC whether that address falls inside the current DPS patrol area.

  • If a free ride program matters to you, check the current rules and boundary with USC rather than relying on a listing or a housing post.

  • Compare total monthly cost, including utilities, internet and parking, and note whether each price is for a room or the whole unit.

  • Tour in person or by live video, and get the lease timing, lease length and deposit terms in writing before you pay.
